The Odd Hour Studio
Many nights I fall asleep imagining some version of the future where I am doing things I love and being good at them. I suspect a lot of people do this. The trouble is, in the end we are what we do, not what we imagine.
The Odd Hour Studio is where I make things. It is named after the hours when most of this work happens — the quiet stretch between when the day ends and before sleep takes over, when the inbox is silent and the ideas get louder. Writing fiction, building things, experimenting, making visual work, joking around in good company: these are things I have enjoyed my whole life. The studio is the place where they all belong under the same roof — fiction, visual work, code, a podcast, and games.
Right now my main project is Stories from the Other Side — a slow cozy iOS game about weaving dreams, built at night while I hold down a full-time job. You can follow its progress in The Night Shift, the studio newsletter.
For now it is just me, based in Berlin. The goal is for that to change — to grow this into a sustainable studio where I can work full-time alongside friends, partners, and contributors who care about making things that actually matter to the people who use them. A small studio with a clear sensibility, not a large one with a vague mission.
We're not there yet. But we're building toward it, one odd hour at a time.
If you are on a similar mission, hit me up any time for a chat online or a coffee IRL.
Best,
Daniel aka Sleepless
